Three paintings from Willie Marlowe, Firlefanz Gallery, Albany NY

Willie Marlowe’s paintings are heavily influenced by Islamic art and miniature paintings, animated with the personal, the particular. The ability to create within a limited space, confident works of rhythmic structure and intriguingly complicated compositions, is a particular hallmark of her work. The artist has a deep interest in the field of archaeology with its scientific study of peoples of the past, their culture and relationships to the environment. Such a deep personal interest leads her to explore evolving visual images, discovering and deciphering shapes, space, and constructs, which lend a sense of a “cosmos pre-history” to the images.--Marijo Doherty, Director Emeritus, University Art Museum, University at Albany, State University of New York
